Lazy day…

Well, here we are…2010! I can’t believe it! Moreover, I can’t believe we have lived here in Scotland for over a year and a half! It has just flown by…

Today is a lazy day! Our holiday break is winding down. Trevor still has until next Monday before he starts back at The International School of Aberdeen. But Cameron and Landen are in two different Scottish schools and they started back today! Mark also went back to work! :( It was so wonderful to spend SO much family time together over the holiday!

We were dumped on with snow just before Christmas and it has on and off melted a little and then snowed again! So, we are still all pretty and white here! There were 37 Aberdeen city schools that closed due to weather today…Landen’s was one of them, so he has at least one more day to “play”! Cameron was so eager to see everyone, as we were checking the updated list on the Council’s website, he kept saying, “But I’m all ready and I want to tell them about my Christmas!” He was so cute. He was also super proud of himself because he “got up” ALL by himself this morning. That is a big deal, as he is normally quite hard to get up. I think Santa’s Darth Vader Alarm Clock made ALL the difference!! Anyway, his school was not cancelled, so he was quite excited! Gotta love that!

So, Trevor, Landen and I are home. We were going to go out and do a few things, but the streets are quite icy. Hence, our lazy day! I figure we’ll play and I’ll try to do a bit more “catching up” on the blog!

Having a nice hot cup of Chai and enjoying the last week of our Christmas decorations! Snow and Christmas are just the perfect combo…toss in the Chai and I’m practically in heaven!

023 Looking out our lounge window this morning…I had the cup of Chai in the hand not holding the camera…:)

We had some friends over the other night for a nice dinner and while I was cooking Mark walked around the house and took some pictures, so I thought I would share them. I know I posted photos of the house shortly after we moved in, but that has been a very long time! It’s not all the rooms, but several, especially the main ones.

003

This is our bedroom, which is on the second floor. The window you see looks out onto the same street in the snowy picture above, Beaconsfield Place.

005

This is our guest room and my craft room. We call it the “Pink Room”, due to its raspberry color. I must say, it has totally grown on me! Spare bed for any friends and family that would like to come adventure to Scotland! We’d love to have you!

007

This is the second floor hallway. Room ahead to the right is the study, to the left, one of the bathrooms on this floor, further to the left, is Cameron’s room, another bathroom (which is an en suite to the Pink Room) and the staircase going up to the third floor, where there are more rooms, Landen and Trevor’s bedrooms included. Mark looks like his was standing in the doorway of the Pink room, right next to him, on his right, would be the door to our room.

008

This is looking downstairs from one of the landings on the staircase. The 1st door on the left is the lounge, the 2nd one is the dining room. The door straight ahead goes to the vestibule, which is where our coats, shoes, etc are and our front door. It has a gorgeous mosaic floor. The door across from the dining room goes to the game room and under the stairs (from this view) is another bathroom, the breakfast room, kitchen and laundry room.

Our dining room.

Another photo of the entry hall…note the longcase clock. (Mark’s Christmas present to me last year…I love it!) If you go to December 2008 in the Blog Archive, you can see the post about it. :)

012

Our game room…lots of fun had in this room…both by adults and kids alike!! Those doors open up to the garden, which we do quite often, especially when we grill out with friends (or even just us and the boys!).

013

Another view of it.

014

Probably my favorite room in the house, the lounge! It is just gorgeous. The detail in all the stained glass, woodwork, mouldings, ceiling, etc are just amazing. To me, it “gives” you a big hug when you walk in. It is so welcoming!

015

Another view, looking toward the entry hall.

016

Staircase is to the right of the photo and the front door is to the left. Straight ahead..the bathroom and breakfast room.

017

Breakfast room, with a pot belly stove. This was the original kitchen of the house years ago.

018

Our kitchen, which I love!…especially the AGA (the red stove). It is ALWAYS on and ready to use. It has 3 different temp ovens and 2 different temp hot plates (burners). It keeps the kitchen nice and cozy. A lot of smaller houses, especially in the country, use an Aga as its main source of heating. The door straight ahead is the laundry room, where there is a big refrig/freezer, washing basin, cabinets, and , of course, washer and dryer. Just in front of the counter on the left is a door leading to the back garden.

There you have it! A quick tour of our house here in Scotland! Hope you enjoyed! :)

Okay, until next time….God Bless! Going to do some more “catch up” on the blog!
